Parallel Importers Scramble as Supply Crunch Hits Popular Models

SH ShiokDrive Staff 30 Jun 2026

Singapore's parallel import market is experiencing unprecedented turbulence as global supply chain disruptions and production bottlenecks create severe shortages of popular models. Dealers at Turf City and Ubi report inventory levels at historic lows, with some popular models completely sold out.

The Honda Vezel — traditionally Singapore's best-selling parallel import — is facing six-month delivery delays. The Toyota Harrier Hybrid and RAV4 are similarly affected. Premiums on in-stock units have climbed 15-20% above typical levels as desperate buyers compete for limited availability.

The situation has been compounded by Japan's production cuts and the diversion of right-hand-drive allocation to Australia and the UK, where margins are higher. Some parallel importers are pivoting to Chinese brands like BYD and GAC, which offer more reliable supply and competitive pricing.
