Grab to Deploy 3,000 EVs Islandwide — Is the Charging Network Ready?

SH ShiokDrive Staff 30 Jun 2026

Grab has announced plans to deploy 3,000 electric vehicles across its Singapore fleet by end-2027, marking the largest EV fleet commitment by any ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia. The move aligns with Singapore's Green Plan 2030 and the target to phase out internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040.

The deployment will be phased, with the first 800 EVs hitting the roads by mid-2026. Grab is partnering with multiple OEMs, including BYD, Hyundai, and Toyota, to source vehicles across different segments — from compact hatchbacks for GrabCar to spacious MPVs for GrabFamily.

The announcement has reignited discussions about Singapore's charging infrastructure readiness. With over 3,000 public charging points now operational and plans for 60,000 by 2030, the physical infrastructure is expanding rapidly. But questions remain about grid capacity, charging speeds, and whether the current network can handle the surge in demand.
