Korea will be the debut market for Hyundai's fresh four-door model, with sales starting in the third quarter. In the brand's home country, the model will be offered with a two-liter naturally aspirated engine or as a "simple" hybrid.
The world premiere of the new, eighth-generation Hyundai sedan took place last week at the domestic auto show in Busan. As a reminder, the model is called Avante in the company's home country and is known as Elantra in other markets. Now the manufacturer has released a video of the new model's presentation online, allowing for a detailed look at the "live" cars.
In the new generation, the Hyundai Elantra/Avante four-door has received a bold exterior design – the styling is done in the same angular style as the Hyundai Ioniq V, which is currently only available for China. The global sedan's body features numerous edges, the Elantra also has muscular sides, semi-concealed door handles, and additional windows behind the rear pillars.
The headlights are two-tiered: at the top are horizontal LED strips and adjacent angled diode sections, below are the main headlight blocks, with a "slot" between them. The rectangular radiator grille is integrated into the lower part of the bumper. The rear lights are also made in the form of LED strips. There is a "ducktail" on the trunk lid.
The length of the new-generation sedan intended for Korea is 4765 mm, width – 1855 mm, height – 1425 mm, wheelbase – 2750 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the previous local model are: 4710/1825/1420 mm, wheelbase – 2720 mm.
Inside the new Elantra, separate screens for the instrument cluster and multimedia system have been installed instead of a single display, with the first screen positioned almost flush against the windshield. The Pleos Connect multimedia system is based on artificial intelligence, like the one in the fresh flagship sedan Hyundai Grandeur. Its tablet can have a diagonal of 12.9 or 14.6 inches, depending on the trim level. Transmission control is assigned to a steering column stalk. On the center tunnel, there are two wireless charging pads and uncovered cupholders.
The equipment list also includes: a remote parking system, ten airbags, surround-view cameras, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, automatic braking systems, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. There is also a Memory Reversing Assist (MRA) system, which "automatically controls steering when reversing by memorizing the vehicle's trajectory."
In Korea, the "eighth-generation" Hyundai Avante sedan will be offered with a new for this country 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 149 hp, replacing the previous 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine (120 hp). The two-liter engine works in conjunction with a CVT. On the domestic market, the "simple" HEV hybrid will also still be available, meaning without the ability to charge from the electrical grid. The hybrid version's powertrain still includes a 1.6-liter engine. According to preliminary data, like the previous Avante Hybrid sedan, the new hybrid also has a six-speed automated manual transmission. It is known that the total system output of the electrified model has increased from 141 to 157 hp.
Sales of the new-generation four-door in its home country will start in the third quarter. The premiere dates for the "global" fresh Hyundai Elantra have not yet been announced.
