Subaru has introduced a hybrid version of the Levorg Layback crossover wagon to its domestic market. The new model is offered in two trim levels, along with several optional design packages.
The updated purely gasoline-powered Subaru Levorg wagon and its "off-road" Levorg Layback variant with a distinct appearance were unveiled in Japan in early June. At that time, the brand also announced the S:HEV hybrid modification for the "crossover." The "traditional" models went on sale immediately after the presentation. Now, the gasoline-electric Levorg Layback S:HEV has become available for order.
The hybrid wagon's powertrain is the same as that of the equivalent Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Forester models. It consists of a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine (160 hp), a starter-generator, a traction electric motor (120 hp), and a modest 1.1 kWh battery. All Levorg versions come standard with all-wheel drive. Subaru also stated that the hybrid's suspension and steering have been recalibrated.
The Subaru Levorg Layback S:HEV also features a distinctive exterior. The hybrid five-door gets a new radiator grille, headlights, and front bumper, while the hood scoop has been removed. The new model is available in two trims – Premium Black EX and Premium EX. The former (which is also the base model), as one might guess, is distinguished by black trim. Several design packages are also available for an additional cost, allowing changes to the body kit or grille. Inside, all Levorg family models generally mirror each other.
The hybrid measures 4735 mm in length compared to 4770 mm for the "traditional" Subaru Levorg Layback, and its height has been reduced by 20 mm to 1550 mm. The wheelbase, conversely, has been stretched by 5 mm to 2675 mm. Ground clearance has decreased to 180 mm from the 200 mm of the "crossover" with only an internal combustion engine. Cargo volume remains unchanged at 429 liters (including the underfloor storage).
The standard equipment list for the Subaru Levorg Layback S:HEV includes: LED lighting, 18-inch wheels, a power tailgate with hands-free opening function, Nappa leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.6-inch vertical tablet multimedia system, and heated steering wheel and seats. Naturally, the EyeSight suite of driver assistance features is also included. The top-tier version additionally features a Harman Kardon audio system (optional for the base hybrid). An additional power outlet in the cargo area can be ordered as an option.
The hybrid all-wheel-drive Subaru Levorg Layback S:HEV is priced between 4,246,000 and 4,521,000 yen, which is equivalent to approximately 2.04 million to 2.17 million rubles at the current exchange rate. The refreshed "traditional" Subaru Levorg and Levorg Layback with the 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (177 hp) start at 3,630,000 yen and 4,059,000 yen, respectively (1.75 million and 1.95 million rubles).
