VW has officially unveiled its new ID. Cross – the new electric SUV that shares plenty of DNA with the ID. Polo hatchback.
Of course, a small electric SUV will have been next on VW’s hit list for its MEB+ platform, following hot on the wheels of the new electric supermini and the ID. Polo GTI hot hatch. This is the last new car to be unveiled using MEB+ for the foreseeable future.
We first saw how the ID. Cross would look via a concept of the same name, which made its debut at the 2025 Munich motor show as a near-finished concept. Naturally, this carries over plenty of design elements from the ID. Polo, including a neat face and an overall shape that’s been given some traditional SUV chunkiness.
The biggest element to celebrate, though, is the no-nonsense and well-put-together interior – also carried over pretty much wholesale from the ID. Polo. That means sensibly-sized screens, physical controls on the squircle steering wheel, more physical controls on the centre of the dashboard for climate functions as well as a ‘retro mode’ for the infotainment displays.
Two battery sizes are available; a 37kWh pack with either 114bhp or 133bhp and a bigger 52kWh pack that launches with 208bhp. VW says the smaller pack can be charged at up to 90kW DC speeds, with the larger pack capable of reaching 105kW speeds. The latter also promises a maximum claimed range of 271 miles.
VW points to packaging and tech benefits for the MEB+ platform, including a large boot area; 475 litres of space is available. Tech includes a new version of the brand’s Travel Assist driver assistance program that now comes to a stop and goes from a standstill at traffic lights, as well as vehicle-to-load functionality.
Three trims for the ID. Cross have been confirmed: Life, Trend and Style. But we’ll have to wait and see what versions – and their prices – will come to the UK market.
