Mitsubishi continues to fuel interest in the next-generation Pajero SUV. The off-road vehicle's presentation is scheduled for autumn.
The official announcement that the body-on-frame Pajero SUV would return to Mitsubishi's lineup was made at the end of May. Now the company has released fresh teasers, including an image of the SUV's instrument cluster. Additionally, Mitsubishi has posted a video online showing the new Pajero without camouflage being demonstrated to brand enthusiasts. For context, the very first off-roader hit the market in 1982, while the "fourth-generation" Mitsubishi Pajero remained in production from 2006 to 2021 (known in some countries as the Montero or Shogun).
It is known that the new off-roader is related to the current Mitsubishi Triton/L200 pickup truck. However, the suspension has been specifically retuned for the Pajero. Key exterior features of the passenger SUV include vertically stacked LED daytime running light sections, plus the headlights are connected by a fairly wide illuminated strip.
The instrument cluster appears to be virtual, which the company calls a "multimeter." Mitsubishi noted that the dashboard includes an altimeter (an instrument for measuring altitude) and a compass, and it can also display the vehicle's tilt and roll angles, as well as torque distribution, in real time.
Furthermore, Mitsubishi has gathered initial comments from potential owners who were allowed not only to look at the new Pajero but also to sit inside it. In particular, they noted the spacious cabin, comfortable seats, and an overall "sense of luxury." Yes, the SUV will become the brand's new flagship.
However, there is still no word on the technical specifications of the new Mitsubishi Pajero. Depending on the market, the engine lineup for the Mitsubishi Triton pickup includes a 2.4-liter bi-turbo diesel producing 204 hp, a less powerful turbo diesel (150 hp or 184 hp), as well as a 2.4-liter gasoline engine (128 hp). The truck is available with a manual or automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (top versions feature the Super Select 4WD-II transmission with an asymmetrical self-locking center differential). Although it is possible that the new Pajero might still receive a hybrid powertrain.
The premiere of the body-on-frame Mitsubishi Pajero will take place in autumn. Like the pickup, the SUV will be produced in Thailand. Subsequently, at least two more models bearing the Pajero name will appear—apparently with their own "surnames." These vehicles were previously shown in a company presentation.
