Dacia, the Romanian brand under the Renault Group, has premiered the Striker, a compact yet spacious crossover-wagon. The Dacia Striker will hit the market before the end of this year, with an all-wheel-drive version available. The starting price will be under 25,000 euros.
The exterior of the Dacia Striker was revealed in March this year during the presentation of Renault Group's new development strategy, and today marks its full premiere. The Striker aims to expand Dacia's audience, attracting those who are tired of traditional crossovers and want something alternative, without sacrificing practicality and spaciousness. Dacia positions the Striker as something between a crossover, a wagon, and a sedan.
The Dacia Striker is highly unified with the Dacia Duster and Bigster crossovers, meaning it is built on the modular RGMP small platform (renamed from CMF-B), yet it features a distinctive appearance with T-shaped LED lighting. The overall length of the Striker is 4620 mm, width is 1824 mm, height ranges from 1525 to 1541 mm depending on the variant, and the wheelbase is 2704 mm. Standard wheels are 17, 18, or 19 inches. Ground clearance is 190 mm for front-wheel-drive versions and 200 mm for all-wheel-drive versions. The claimed drag coefficient is 0.29. It is particularly emphasized that the Striker's construction uses 47 kg of recycled plastic.
Inside the Dacia Striker, many elements are borrowed from the Duster and Bigster, but the front panel and door cards have been slightly redesigned, with textile inserts added to create a cozy feel. The ventilation vents feature T-shaped decoration in the style of the headlights and taillights. The YouClip mounting system allows the cabin to be equipped with various add-on accessories. Under the armrest lid between the front seats is a 6.7-liter storage compartment. Higher trims include a panoramic glass roof.
The base Essential trim includes a generous set of passive and active safety systems (including adaptive cruise control and a rearview camera), 17-inch steel wheels, manual air conditioning, roof rails, a 10.1-inch multimedia screen, a 7-inch instrument cluster, and power windows for all doors. In higher trims, buyers get dual-zone climate control, an electromechanical parking brake, hill descent assist, a 10-inch instrument cluster, an Arkamys 3D audio system with six speakers, wireless smartphone charging, a power tailgate, and other conveniences. The trunk volume is 600 liters.
Currently, three powertrains are announced for the Dacia Striker, all hybrid. The base Striker mild hybrid-G 140 is equipped with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 140 hp, capable of running on both gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas, supplemented by a 48-volt starter-generator that assists during acceleration. The transmission is a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, with front-wheel drive only.
The Striker Hybrid 155 is also front-wheel drive, equipped with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 109 hp, a starter-generator, a traction electric motor producing 49 hp, a multi-mode automatic three-shaft 4-speed transmission with dog clutches instead of traditional disc synchronizers, and a buffer battery with a capacity of 1.4 kWh. The maximum combined power of the powertrain is 155 hp.
The Striker Hybrid 150 4x4 features hybrid all-wheel drive. At the front, it has a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine (140 hp, 230 Nm), equipped with a 48-volt starter-generator and paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic that transmits all power to the front wheels. The rear wheels are driven by a separate 48-volt electric motor (31 hp, 87 Nm) paired with a two-speed reduction gearbox. This electric motor is powered by a 48-volt buffer battery with a capacity of 0.84 kWh, which it recharges during braking and coasting. The maximum combined power of the powertrain is 150 hp. All-wheel drive operates at speeds up to 140 km/h; beyond that, only front-wheel drive is active. There are special modes for driving on mud, sand, and snow.
Prices for the Dacia Striker have not yet been announced; it is only known that the base trim of the crossover-wagon will cost under 25,000 euros. For comparison, the Dacia Bigster currently starts at 23,990 euros in Germany, while the Skoda Octavia starts at 29,140 euros. It is expected that the Romanian newcomer will attract buyers away from the Skoda Octavia by offering a similar level of comfort and convenience for less money.
