A new project by talented Dutch designer Niels van Roij is called the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage. It pays tribute to the one-off 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Shooting Brake and reproduces its key stylistic elements.
The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Shooting Brake was built by Luigi Chinetti Jr., a Ferrari dealer in the United States, for a wealthy client. Now, Niels van Roij has carried out a similar operation. He is known to our readers for projects such as the restomod Volvo P1800 ES Norrsken and a convertible based on the modern Land Rover Defender 90.
Over 15,000 hours were spent on the production of the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage. The scale of the bodywork modifications is enormous; from the original Ferrari 599 GTB coupe of the late 2000s, only the side doors remain. All other exterior body panels are new, and the headlights and taillights of the shooting brake are also unique.
The main feature of the new body is an elegant luggage compartment with a transparent fixed rear window and two upward-opening side roofs like gullwing doors. Structurally, the luggage area is divided into two parts with different floor heights, finished in carbon fiber, with aluminum cargo rails applied on top. The interior has been reupholstered in soft cognac-colored leather, while the dashboard has been redesigned to match the historical prototype—specifically, the instrument cluster has been moved to the center. It turned out not entirely convenient, but it is original and historically accurate.
Niels van Roij Design has not disclosed any details about the technical specifications of the shooting brake. It is likely standard: the Ferrari 599 GTB coupe is equipped with a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 (620 hp, 608 Nm) and a 6-speed automated manual transmission, sending all power to the rear wheels. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of over 330 km/h.
Interestingly, the delivery package for the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage includes a custom-tailored three-piece suit, but it is not intended for the car's buyer—it is for Niels van Roij himself. This suit will remain in the design studio, and Niels van Roij will wear it for meetings with future clients and collectors.
The price of the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage has not been disclosed, but it is clear that it is enormous—likely several million euros. There will not be a second car like this, but Niels van Roij would gladly create other unique shooting brakes or automotive masterpieces with different body styles for other wealthy clients.
