This week, the first official teasers of the most unusual Range Rover model have emerged, allowing a detailed look at all the key features of its exterior.
Just a few days ago, the first spy photos of unusual prototypes with an uncharacteristically low roofline for the brand began circulating online, and initially, everyone assumed that a second-generation Velar crossover was hiding under the camouflage. Now it has become clear that the first generation of the stylish SUV with an internal combustion engine will remain in production for several more years. The new model will be the brand's fifth and will be named GT.
As previously mentioned, this is the most unusual model for the company, most closely resembling a passenger car due to its low-slung silhouette. Overall, the body shape is reminiscent of a liftback, thanks to the sloping roof and heavily raked rear glass that extends to the edge of the tailgate. Otherwise, the design follows the current Range Rover styling with maximally clean lines and surfaces. At the front, the crossover features narrow horizontal headlights with a strip of daytime running lights at the bottom, while the grille is still completely hidden under camouflage: we have depicted a version styled after the upcoming electric Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
The massive front bumper features a pair of vertical air intakes on the sides and a trapezoidal air intake at the bottom. On the side, you can note the brand's signature retractable door handles, the hood line that wraps around the wheel arches (similar to the smaller Evoque model), frameless doors, and—for the first time on a Range Rover—side mirrors mounted on stalks. The rear resembles the current Range Rover Sport, except the tailgate is even flatter, and the taillights are designed as horizontal lines.
The Range Rover GT is built on the EMA platform, announced back in 2021, with an 800-volt electrical architecture. It is initially positioned as an electric vehicle, though hybrid versions will appear in the future (likely using an internal combustion engine solely as a generator). The crossover will have at least one electric motor on each axle, meaning all-wheel drive will be standard even in the base version. By the way, the interior of the new model has already been fully revealed.
The premiere date for the new Range Rover GT has not yet been announced, but given its level of readiness, it could be expected within the coming months. It will be produced at JLR's plant in Halewood (England, Merseyside) alongside the Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
