A large SUV from a Japanese brand, designed for the American market, has received an "off-road" variant called Trailhunter.
Toyota has been producing its current full-size SUV under the name Sequoia since 2022, and its closest relative is the Tundra pickup truck, which was recently refreshed for the 2027 model year. It is worth noting that based on last year's results, sales of the Toyota Sequoia in the U.S. increased slightly: dealers sold about 26,200 units, which is 0.3% more than in 2024. And in the first half of 2026, the model sold over 13,900 units (14% more than in January-June of last year).
Now, Toyota's American office has announced updates for the 2027 model year Sequoia. The three-row SUV has received a refreshed front end with a redesigned large radiator grille and a different bumper, which integrates new rectangular fog lights. Some versions have also received decorative chrome inserts.
Inside, the changes are the same as those in the Tundra pickup. This means the refreshed Sequoia has added a 14-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system with a revised voice control function to its standard equipment list. It also includes a built-in dashcam that records 20-second clips manually or automatically using external cameras, and the Safety Sense 4.0 suite of safety systems.
The 2027 model year Toyota Sequoia will still include the SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone trims, and it has also added the Trailhunter package to create an "off-road" version. This variant is based on the SR5 trim but with a series of modifications.
Specifically, the Sequoia Trailhunter gets: bronze alloy wheels fitted with Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, an upgraded OME (Old Man Emu) suspension, different front shock absorbers, and additional underbody protection. The package also includes the Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control systems, as well as a rear differential lock. The equipment list for all versions of the SUV also includes a built-in 2.4 kW inverter, which can be used to power camping gear.
Toyota's American office said nothing about the mechanics of the refreshed Sequoia; apparently, it remains unchanged. It is worth noting that the current large SUV is equipped with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, which is based on a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine working in tandem with an electric motor. The total output of this system is 443 hp, and the maximum torque is 790 Nm.
The company has promised to announce the prices for the 2027 model year Toyota Sequoia this coming fall. The starting price of the current full-size SUV in the U.S. is $65,725 (equivalent to approximately 5.13 million rubles at the current exchange rate), while the top-tier version costs at least $86,135 (about 6.72 million rubles).
