BYD's new large four-door sedan will be available with hybrid or electric powertrains. The electric version features all-wheel drive. The new model will make its debut next month.
BYD first announced this large sedan from the Dynasty lineup in early June, when photos of a camouflaged test prototype were published. Later that month, the model appeared in the catalog of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Now, the manufacturer has released several official full images. On the domestic market, the four-door will be called the BYD Dahan (English version: Great Han). That is, the sedan will lead the family, which currently includes two generations of the model. The very first BYD Han, recall, appeared in 2020, with its last update in 2024. A year later, the second-generation sedan launched in China, adding the letter L to its name.
The exterior of the BYD Dahan is styled similarly to previous sedans. However, the new flagship has its own unique features. For instance, its hood extends onto the front fenders, and instead of pop-out door handles, it uses semi-concealed ones. The lighting and bumpers are original. A two-tone body paint option is also available. Like the Han and Han L, the BYD Dahan sedan is equipped with an autopilot system featuring a lidar above the windshield.
The new model is larger than previous four-doors. The BYD Dahan measures 5256 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, 1510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3130 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the current "first" BYD Han are: 4995/1910/1495 mm, with a wheelbase of 2920 mm. The BYD Han L measures: 5050/1960/1505 mm, with a wheelbase of 2970 mm. The new sedan can be equipped with 20- or 21-inch wheels.
The brand has not yet revealed the interior, but the sedan has already been spotted by spy photographers who managed to peek inside. The BYD Dahan features a sizable instrument screen, an even larger multimedia system tablet, and a separate display for the front passenger. On the center tunnel, there is a wireless charging pad and covered cup holders. Transmission control is handled by a steering column stalk.
Like other BYD models, the Dahan sedan will be available as a plug-in hybrid or an electric car. According to certification documents, the first version is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (156 hp) and a single 272-hp electric motor (presumably mounted on the front axle). Preliminary data suggests the hybrid is fitted with a battery capacity of approximately 54.5 kWh.
The electric version will be offered with rear-wheel drive (503 hp) or dual-motor all-wheel drive (total output of 775 hp). This version is reportedly equipped with a battery capacity of 102 kWh.
The full presentation of the BYD Dahan will take place in August at the Chengdu Auto Show. Before the premiere, the manufacturer may share official images of the new model's interior.
