According to preliminary data, the new four-door Denza will be available exclusively as an electric car. The model will be offered with rear-wheel drive or three-motor all-wheel drive.
The giant sedan Denza Z9 entered the Chinese market in the fall of 2024, built on the basis of the Denza Z9 GT hatchback, which debuted earlier that same year. In the brand's home market, both cars were received rather coolly, so at the beginning of this year, the five-door model was updated there. Incidentally, the hatchback's upgrade helped: according to local media, from January to June 2026, approximately 16,700 Denza Z9 GT hatchbacks were sold, whereas in the six months of 2025, only 4,800 units were sold. The Z9 sedan initially had even lower demand (its total for the entire last year was 2,760 units), and this model was not directly updated. Moreover, the Z9 has already been removed from Denza's Chinese consumer website.
However, the brand is not abandoning the four-door model in its lineup. Back in the spring, the certification for the Denza Z9S sedan was entered into the database of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Now this model has been shown to Chinese journalists and bloggers, and official images have been released simultaneously. And yes, the Z9S sedan has been announced as a separate, completely new model. Let us also recall that the Denza brand was created by Daimler/Mercedes and BYD, but the Germans later exited the project. So now it is a sub-brand of BYD.
If the previous Denza Z9 sedan replicated the hatchback's design, the Denza Z9S has its own appearance. The new four-door model features two-tier head optics: elongated dual LED daytime running light sections are located at the top, with vertical blocks of the main headlights below. The rear lights are also split, but they are sharper compared to the lights of the old sedan and hatchback. The Denza Z9S also has frameless doors with semi-hidden handles instead of the retractable ones on the Z9 and Z9 GT. There is a lift-type spoiler on the trunk lid. Like the current hatchback, a lidar is installed above the windshield of the "ESK" (electric car).
The Denza Z9S is more compact than the previous Z9 four-door model. The new model's length is 5090 mm, width is 1980 mm, height is 1490 mm, and wheelbase is 3025 mm. The dimensions of the discontinued Denza Z9 sedan are: 5235/1990/1500 mm, with a wheelbase of 3125 mm. The length of the Z9 GT hatchback, depending on the configuration, is 5180 or 5195 mm, with the same wheelbase of 3125 mm as the old four-door model.
Inside, the new sedan imitates the updated hatchback. The Denza Z9S gets a similar front panel with vertical side air vents, the same instrument cluster, multimedia system tablet, and three-spoke steering wheel (the Z9 had a four-spoke steering wheel). However, there seems to be no separate multimedia display for the front passenger in the new model. The door cards are unique. As in the previous Denza Z9 sedan, a fairly large screen for settings is built into the fold-down armrest of the rear seat.
The discontinued Denza Z9 four-door model was available as a hybrid or electric car, with both modifications being all-wheel drive by default. The new sedan, according to preliminary data, will be offered only with electric powertrains. The base version is rear-wheel drive, with a 503-horsepower motor. More expensive variants are all-wheel drive, with three electric motors that together produce 1210 hp. Chinese sources write that the Denza Z9S is equipped with a battery capacity of 102.3 kWh.
